A kidney biopsy is a diagnostic procedure performed to obtain a small sample of kidney tissue for examination under a microscope. This procedure is typically recommended when a patient presents with abnormal kidney function, blood or protein found in the urine sample. Kidney biopsy is done by accessing the kidney through the lower back. Local anesthesia is applied to numb the skin. Biopsy needle is inserted through the skin and into the kidney using Ultrasound or CT Scan guidance. A small tissue is extracted from the kidney and the needle is withdrawn. The procedure is performed under sterile conditions to minimize the risk of infection and complications.

Kidney biopsy testing has two parts. The first part is to take the sample for kidney biopsy. This procedure requires the presence of two doctors. The radiologist is required to give guidance through ultrasound or CT Scan. The nephrologist is required to take the sample from the kidney. The cost of taking sample from the kidney using CT or USG guidance is Rs. 5000. The tissue is then sent to the lab for testing. The cost of lab testing is Rs. 1250. The total cost of kidney biopsy test will be Rs. 6250.
