During the permcath procedure the skin is numbed with local anesthesia. A small incision is made to access the vein. The catheter is then carefully inserted into the vein and tunneled under the skin to create a stable and secure access point. Once the cathere is in place the permcath allows for the removal and return of blood during hemodialysis sessions, facilitating the efficient filtering of waste products and excess fluid from the bloodstream.
